Tough choice for the first post. But I’ve had this dude on permanent steady rotation for a few months now, so I had to share. He kinda reps the path my musical tastes have taken–white dude from Detroit who grew up on hip hop and then did his own thing with it, fusing Motown doo-wap with modern hip hop. He’s on the same label that J Dilla was on and Madlib. For me, listening/watching him is like like watching Jeff Hornacek play basketball… I’m sure if he can do it, I can too… if you like this, you must also check for “Green Eyed Love” and “Maybe So, Maybe No”.
