This came out a couple of years ago, I really love the rest of the album, and, no, I can’t understand what the hell he’s on about half the time either. Apparently, this one’s about a friend of theirs called Geraldine, who’s, umm, a social worker.

Tough choice for the first post.  But I’ve had this dude on permanent steady rotation for a few months now, so I had to share.  He kinda reps the path my musical tastes have taken–white dude from Detroit who grew up on hip hop and then did his own thing with it, fusing Motown doo-wap with modern hip hop.  He’s on the same label that J Dilla was on and Madlib.  For me, listening/watching him is like like watching Jeff Hornacek play basketball… I’m sure if he can do it, I can too… if you like this, you must also check for “Green Eyed Love” and “Maybe So, Maybe No”.

From “On the Corner,” this is a bit of the post-Kind of Blue Miles Davis.  It’s something I grew up hearing at home on the regular.  Had I been able to upload a larger file, I would’ve gone with a different Miles Davis track, but this is a good way to show how I got my ears. – Miles (Granderson)

OK men (not to be sexist, but we ain’t got no womenfolk yet), it is time for our first post. For rilla.   So here is the only guideline for post one … make it represent you a little bit (and give a one or two sentence explanation of how it does).  Also, here is a reminder of the post format.

First, post either in mp3 format or youtube link (Matt’s post will explain all).

Second: post Artist, Song Title, Album, and Why you picked it (in one sentence or three tops).

And everyone is free to comment on everyone else’s posts (be nice, but that don’t mean you cant talk a small bit of ish).  Threads will start etc etc.  (But don’t let these comment threads turn into musical suggestion threads that replace the main threads).
